Why we built this

The 5pm question is exhausting.

You've been working since 8. Somebody needs to be picked up, somebody needs help with fractions, and the fridge has three things in it that don't go together. And then it arrives, right on schedule: what's for dinner?

The hard part was never the cooking. It's the deciding — the invisible planning, remembering, and negotiating that happens before a single pan comes out. That's the part that quietly wears you down, night after night, year after year.

So we built the thing we wanted: a plan that's already made when your brain is done for the day. Not aspirational. Not thirty ingredients. Just dinner, decided, so you can spend that hour with your people instead of staring into the fridge.

The deciding

It's not the cooking. It's holding seven decisions in your head while someone asks for a snack.

The forgetting

You had a plan. You also forgot the one ingredient that made it a plan.

The guilt

Cereal for dinner again isn't a moral failing. It just doesn't feel great on a Wednesday.

Three steps, that's all

How My Family Dinners works

No onboarding marathon, no spreadsheet energy. Open it, plan it, close it, live your life.

Step 01

Plan

Pick your week in a few minutes on Sunday — or let us suggest a plan built around your family's favorites, your schedule, and how much energy you actually have.

Step 02

Shop

Your whole week becomes one shopping list, merged and sorted by aisle. Shop it yourself or hand it to whoever's already going out.

Step 03

Cook

Tap Start Cooking and follow along. Big text, real timers, no scrolling past someone's childhood memoir to find the oven temperature.

What parents are saying

Placeholder quotes for now — real ones land the week we launch.

I stopped dreading 5pm. That's it. That's the review. The plan is already there when my brain isn't.

S Sarah M.
Working mom, 2 kids

My wife and I share the list now, so whoever's closer to the store just goes. We've stopped buying three jars of cumin.

M Mike T.
Dad of 3, night shift

The kid-friendly filter is doing heavy lifting in my house. Fewer standoffs, fewer plain noodles at 7pm.

FAQ

Questions parents actually ask

Straight answers. If yours isn't here, just ask us.

Do I have to plan the whole week at once?
Nope. Some weeks you'll plan all seven nights on Sunday, and some weeks you'll open the app at 4:45pm on a Tuesday and pick one thing. Both are fine. The app doesn't guilt you for skipping days.
What if my kids only eat four foods?
Then you're in good company. You can mark the meals your family actually eats, filter for kid-friendly, and hide anything that's caused a dinner-table standoff. Over time the plan starts to look like your real life.
Can I use my own recipes?
Yes. Paste a link from any recipe site and we'll pull in the ingredients and steps. Type in the ones that live in your head or on a stained index card from your mom. And if you have a digital cookbook PDF, upload it — AI reads it end-to-end and turns every recipe into an organized, searchable entry in your library.
Does the shopping list actually work?
It combines everything from your week's plan, merges duplicates (two recipes needing garlic won't send you home with two heads), and sorts by aisle so you're not backtracking through the store.
Do I need the paid plan?
No. The free plan covers weekly planning, your recipe box, and shopping lists — that's a real, useful app on its own. Premium is for when you want unlimited plans, Prep Mode (Sunday-prep sessions with smart cooking order and storage tips), and a shared family account.
Can my partner see the plan too?
With a family account, yes. Everyone sees the same week, the same list, and can check things off at the store in real time. No more “did you already get the milk?” texts.
What about allergies and dietary stuff?
Set it once in preferences — gluten-free, dairy-free, vegetarian, nut allergies — and we'll keep it out of your suggestions. It's not a medical safety net, so always check labels, but it saves a lot of scrolling.
Is my family's data private?
Your recipes and plans are yours. We don't sell your data, we don't run ads against it, and you can export or delete everything from inside the app. The full details are in our privacy policy.
